NMO Information and Support Offered by The Walton Centre in the UK The Walton Centre for Neurology and Neurosurgery is the UK’s only dedicated Neuroscience NHS Trust for adults located in Liverpool, UK. The area covered by The Walton Centre includes Merseyside, most of Cheshire, parts of Lancashire, North Wales and the Isle of Man. However, occasionally people from other parts of the UK and abroad are treated at The Walton Centre. The mission of The Walton Centre is to maximise independence and improve the health of people with neurological injury, illness, disability or pain. The Walton Centre has created a wonderful web site that provides a comprehensive review of Neuromyelitis Optica (NMO) or Devic’s Disease. The information is intended for patients, doctors and researchers. The authors of the site are Anu Jacob, MD, MRCP, DM (Specialist Registrar, Neurology) and Mike Boggild, MD, MRCP (Consultant Neurologist) both at the Walton Centre for Neurology and Neurosurgery, NHS Trust, Liverpool, UK. In addition to the information about NMO, the authors also include an excellent bibliography and links to sites where additional information about NMO can be found and details of Neurologists with a special interest in NMO world-wide. The information about NMO will be updated in early 2006 and at regular intervals as more is learnt about the condition. http://www.thewaltoncentre.nhs.uk/patients/Neuromyelitis_Optica.html The Walton Centre holds an annual meeting in the UK for people affected by NMO/Devic’s Disease. A Patient Support Group has been able to help link individuals in the UK and abroad, including parents of children. Patients, relatives or caregivers interested in getting further information can send an email or ring Tony Murphy. Tony Murphy, Patient Advice & Liaison Service (PALS) Leader, The Walton Centre for Neurology and Neurosurgery NHS Trust, Lower Lane, Liverpool, L9 7LJ UK
