In Their Own Words
In each issue of the newsletter, we will bring you a column that presents the experiences of our members. Their stories are presented In Their Own Words by way of letters they have sent us. We are most appreciative of their willingness to share their very personal stories. It is our hope that through the sharing of these experiences, we will all learn something about each other and about ourselves. It is our hope that the stories will help us all realize that we are not alone. You may submit your stories by sending them either by e-mail or through the postal service to Sandy Siegel.

One Step at a Time
By Molly Sena Barrett

The day I got my disease I was scared and afraid,
I was hoping the pain would go and the weakness would begin to fade.
I was puzzled and I was confused I asked G-d, "Why me?"
The reply He gave me was, "just wait and you'll see."
For each day I prayed and hoped that I would walk again,
And each time I said, "Oh, why did this have to happen?"
But one day I got it, I finally understood,
I began to look at only the good.
I thanked G-d I was alive and that I could breath and talk,
And at that moment, it didn't matter if I could run or even walk.
I was thankful for every inch and every step that I took,
I finally was seeing what was in front of me all I needed to do was look.

Every day G-d helped me and is still ever more
Because for every inch he gave me, I made it so much more.
I made one inch a yard and every yard was a mile,
And every time I took a step it all seemed worth while.
In the long run it's not who finishes the race first,
But who takes what they've been given and makes it the best, even if they were given the worst!
